Dimwit-In-Chief

Last night, Donald Trump -- in a bizarre speech to the Boy Scouts of America -- again praised the importance of loyalty. But Jeff Sessions must be questioning the value of his loyalty to Trump. Sessions was the first Republican senator to support Trump. And he was loyal to Trump through the ups and downs of the campaign.

But, lately, Trump has been on Sessions' case. And today Trump slammed Sessions for his "very weak position" on Hillary Clinton. He's still obsessed with Hillary.  And he's profoundly stupid, refusing to recognize long established Department of Justice protocols which required Sessions to recuse himself from the Russia investigation.

Sessions recusal made Robert Mueller's appointment possible. Trump knows what Mueller is going to discover in his tax returns. And he blames Sessions -- not himself -- for the position he's in. He truly is the Dim Wit In Chief.

Trump is pressuring Sessions to prosecute his election opponent. If he succeeds you can kiss free elections goodbye. Given the long-standing independence of the AG and the norm that the president does not direct or interfere with prosecutions, Trump's pressure on Sessions should be grounds for impeachment.

If Trump had read the Constitution, Cap, he would know that he's laying the foundation for his impeachment. But Trump doesn't read. He watches TV.

I have always been of the belief that to become the President of the United States of America you have to be very smart. Reagan won an election with Alzheimer in the third degree, GWB was brain dead and now you have Trump. What is that saying a fish rots at the head.
I really thought Trump was clever not just someone with torettes.

Like Jim Morrison said " just going to get my kicks in until the whole shithouse goes down in flames"

Hillary Clinton and the Democratic party are allegedly as corrupt as anything in history. In Canada we had neo libs in the party just because they could be elected. This is what is wrong with first past the post. Democracy know no party, no allegiance just one person one vote.

There is an interesting piece by Daniel Dale in this morning's Star, Owen, that addresses the implications of Trump's behaviour:

"Trump’s critics warn of a pressing threat to the rule of law. Matthew Miller, chief spokesman for the Department of Justice during the Obama administration, said he sees a worrisome public complacency about Trump acts that he believes are reminiscent of a “banana republic” strongman."

A good showman can fake it, Steve. Trump has been faking it for years -- and no one was asking him difficult questions.

Thanks for the link, Lorne. Dimwitted leaders are chosen by dimwitted citizens -- citizens who choose to be, and to remain, dimwitted.

But democracy works on the assumption that each citizen -- with his or her one vote -- will take the time to become informed and stay informed, Steve.

I think maybe we should stop insulting 'banana republics', Owen. :) Maybe 'tin-pot dictator'? Good title, though it doesn't sound like you...
A little story about Tourette's, Steve, and please take it kindly meant; my only child's Dad has the disorder. Brilliant man. They do achieve greatness in their professions, if the bullying doesn't get them first.

What terrifies me is the prospect that America may no longer have a line in the sand, a limit to its tolerance of this bastard's impulsive excesses. After six months there can no longer be any doubt that Trump understands no bounds and that every accommodation merely allows him to move the bar of his constant affront to decency. The Congressional Republicans are empowering this sadist even as he lashes out at them, belittling and even threatening them. How masochistic is that? With each incident, every outrage, Steve Bannon draws closer to his goal of destroying what he calls the "administrative state."

It's remarkable -- and frightening -- to see how spineless the party of "good, old fashioned American values" has become, Mound.

When a nation serves only to enrich its leader, lovingit, it is no longer a republic -- banana or not.
