Now I wonder if I was unfair. Perhaps they would dearly like to get us off the GDP treadmill but, whether through a failure of will or vision or courage, cannot see how to change course. They might not like this neoliberal economic paradigm more than its vocal critics but they think the throttle is jammed.

Yes, a rapid switch to a circular economy might keep alive the "soft landing" option but how would that be possible in the limited time remaining with other disruptive forces, notably climate impacts, already underway and, whether it's floods, fires and killer heatwaves, set to worsen very soon.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/26/record-shattering-heat-becoming-much-more-likely-says-climate-study
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jul/26/flash-floods-will-be-more-common-as-climate-crisis-worsens-say-scientists-london-floods

The weather is telling us something. I'm not sure if it's a final warning or a resigned farewell.

The Disaffected Libhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13135599782685108764noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35117130.post-68338388697952014032021-07-26T11:21:30.706-04:002021-07-26T11:21:30.706-04:00Unfortunately, Cap, as Mark Twain wrote, "Eve...Unfortunately, Cap, as Mark Twain wrote, "Everybody talks about the weather.
