Donald Trump's campaign manager, Brad Parscale, is in hot water. Tom Lutz reports:
Donald Trump’s campaign manager, Brad Parscale, was under pressure on Sunday after claiming hundreds of thousands of people had applied for tickets to the president’s return to the campaign trail in Tulsa, only for the rally to attract a sparse crowd.
The Tulsa fire department said 6,200 people attended. The Trump campaign claimed 12,000. The arena holds 19,000.
The campaign had built an “overflow” stage outside the BOK Center, to host brief remarks by Trump and Mike Pence. Those speeches were cancelled.
Trump’s demeanour on returning to Washington was widely scrutinised. He was initially quiet on Twitter on Sunday but the president was reported to be “furious” at the “underwhelming” event, which followed a week of controversy about whether it should even be held. According to NBC, Trump was “particularly angry that before he even left DC, aides made public that six members of team in Tulsa tested positive for Covid-19”.
Rick Wilson, a bestselling author, former Republican consultant and co-founder of the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump super pac, was critical of Parscale’s approach.
“Brad broke the first rule of American politics: under promise and over deliver,” he told the Guardian. “Brad’s survival now depends on the good offices of his patrons inside the Trump camp, and [Ivanka and Kushner] are already signaling their displeasure to the media.
But, then, that's been the story of Trump's presidency -- to overpromise and underperform. It's too soon to write Trump's obituary. But it could be that the Trump Show won't be renewed for another season.

Never mind another season, the Trump Show's already in reruns. He grinds through his greatest hits like a 70s rock band on a farewell tour - Crooked Hillary, MS-13, Looting and Rioting, Fake Media, Life's So Unfair, and more. The audience in Tulsa yawned through twelve minutes of excuses for the West Point debacle. He's pathetic, like an old drunk at the end of the bar.
And he's done. While the Tulsa FD put attendance at 6,200, only about 1,000 of those were fans. The rest were paid actors, campaign staff, WH staff and support people. He's an incumbent now and has to run on his record - Mexico didn't build a wall and neither did he, no repeal and replace of Obamacare, the world's highest Covid-19 death toll, massive unemployment and an economy in the worst shape since the Great Depression. His only chance of reelection is outright fraud or other criminality. I expect that's what we'll see.
Cap
I have no doubt that's what we'll see, Cap. The question is: Will it sell?
A wounded animal is a dangerous animal, Owen. Let's hope there are enough arrows left in the quiver of American democracy to bring Trump down.
It's clear that Trump will stop at nothing to win re-election, Lorne. And it's too much to hope that the virus will dispatch him.
We will probably never know for sure but it looks like a good bet that Tik Tok teens disrupted the rally. https://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2020/06/21/business/bc-us-trump-rally-tiktok-tickets.html
Trump handlers are saying that it didn't work but are we to believe anyone in Trump's sphere? The technique used is an old one that environmentalists use to protect grizzlies; buy a limited hunting permit and not use it. If thousands of teens reserved admission to the Trump rally, seats they never intended to use, they probably did have an effect. Way to go kids!
It appears, Toby, that the kids can spot a con man when they see him -- unlike some of their elders.
The TikTok gambit was brilliant but doesn't really account for the lousy turnout. Entry to the arena was on a first come basis. Trump's fans simply didn't turn up in the numbers he previously enjoyed. He fell far short of filling the stands inside. What the TikTok effort did was it goaded Trump into proclaiming there would be a million supporter turnout. Having done that he was humiliated. Sort of like Obama's penultimate White House press corps dinner were Trump's predecessor relentlessly mocked Trump. The cameras caught Trump positively seething with rage. I imagine that, had Obama been a white man, that would have put paid to Trump's political aspirations.
I've seen that clip, Mound. You get the impression that was the night Trump decided to run for the presidency. He's obviously a man who doesn't think things through.
.. Baby Donald will be thrown out with the bathwater..
Like so many.. I watch US Marines salute the pus sack President.. its far beyond cringeworthy.. its off the deep end of the scale.. As a Canadian observer I supposedly 'have no skin in the game'.. however I expect nothing good for North America will come from Americans ludicrous experiment.. or stunting for Trump.. or was it really just a bizarro collective pimp effort ? Selling off used septic tanks ? Whatever
If there is an upside.. its that the rest of the world can now see and ID all the rest of the parasites.. the Barr, Pompeo and McConnell types. History books will skewer them.. and the 'open carry' parasites as well & the outrageous opportunists, creeps, pond scum. How many citizens were bankrupted or died to feed the Trump frenzy ?
The adage holds true re 'everything Trump touches dies'..
walking - talking - plutonium..
Trump's final fiscal fizzle gonna be a shocker
his name - Brand - is now synonymous
with 'FAILURE', Larceny, and Poison..
And he will continue to deny all of it until he draws his last breath, sal.
