President No More

Robert Reich writes that the Trump presidency is over:

You’d be forgiven if you hadn’t noticed. His verbal bombshells are louder than ever, but Donald J Trump is no longer president of the United States.
By having no constructive response to any of the monumental crises now convulsing America, Trump has abdicated his office.
He is not governing. He’s golfing, watching cable TV and tweeting.

Trump is completely self-involved and has no interest in governing:

In reality, Donald Trump doesn’t run the government of the United States. He doesn’t manage anything. He doesn’t organize anyone. He doesn’t administer or oversee or supervise. He doesn’t read memos. He hates meetings. He has no patience for briefings. His White House is in perpetual chaos.

And the Republicans in Congress have no interest in governing either:

The House has passed nearly 400 bills this term, including measures to reduce climate change, enhance election security, require background checks on gun sales, reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and reform campaign finance. All are languishing in McConnell’s inbox. Trump doesn’t seem to be aware of any of them.

History will remember Trump as a 21st century Nero. As the country melted away, he tweeted.

Nero fled the capital and killed himself. I don't think Trump has the guts to do that.

I see that Trump went to the White House bunker last evening, Owen, putting me in mind of another failed tyrant. Seems like an appropriate place for him, eh?

Trump is a bully, Cap. But he's also a coward. He will not fall on his sword.

From now on, Lorne, Trump is going to be pinned down in the White House. There will be no more MAGA rallies for The Mighty Moron.

Sadly, this doesn't end with Trump's departure from the White House. Trump was the culmination of a morbid politics that infected Washington decades ago. A Democrat may take the White House in November but how will that change anything? The corruption is deeply embedded in the legislative branch and that can thwart any reform-minded president. It thwarted Obama.

Both parties have made things tough, Mound. But, if the Republicans are denied control of both houses, there is some hope for a better day. However, as long as the Electoral College exists, Trump -- or someone worse -- could become president.

Whilst I take no pleasure in this comparison, I think it very possible .

Trumps supporters are not just more loyal they are more motivated.
They are a clone of super nationalism, evangelism and and trailer trash ism, for those that believe in the American dream, as Carlin said it, they have to be in a dream and asleep to believe it.
Yet, they know it, they have the biggest guns!! and know how to use them.

They do have the biggest guns, TB. And Trump is not afraid to use them. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to cancel the election. This is a make or break moment for the Republic.
