Canada Day 2023

Where we live, smoke is in the air. It irritates our eyes and, when we go outside, we wear masks. These are difficult days. But let's not be overcome with cynicism. There is still much to celebrate in this country.

Happy Canada Day.

Perhaps we have much to celebrate here, but personally I can't connect it to nationalism and flag waving.

2 or 3 years ago, the residential-school-victim graveyards became big news, in the spring.

It seems that my grandparents generation - who ignored Dr. Peter H. Bryce - bear a lot of the guilt. So much for 'heritage'.

I've lost any sense of 'national pride' and can not generate any good feelings on Canada Days.

Especially after the convoy-types appropriated the flag and the Freedland gov't has confirmed the Harper shift of CDN foreign policy to match the dangerous and murderous American policy.

I'll go for a walk on unceded territory and think about what that means.

YES, there is. HAPPY CANADA DAY! Canada is a great place to live. There are matters which need to be address and amongst them is residential school victims.
Oh, yes the convoy types, ugh. ugly Canadians. we will get through this and be better off.
Unceded territory, yes there is a lot of that. I liked Julie Blacks version of the National anthem.
I think Canada is getting better in some areas and in others not so much. However, it is up to all of us to vote, particpate. The land in this country is amazing. We have rights and freedoms most countries don't have.

Two of our children live in Asia, PoV. They deal with third-world problems. Our problems are first-world problems.

You hit the nail on the head, e.a.f. If we want things to change, we have to vote.

Happy Dominion Day! May you enjoy the “happy groups spreading out on the green sward, the tables laid with choice viands, and the air resounding with joyous laughter.”

A reminder of what we used to call this day, Cap -- from sea to shining sea.

Canada is work in progress.
Think yourselves fortunate; the US and UK are becoming regressive.
I came to Canada in 1974; it's a much better place now.
That said it still has a lot of growing up to do.

I agree, TB. But I much prefer to live here than either in the U.S. or the U.K.
