The Republican Party is a collection of vile and incompetent people. Leading their parade is Donald Trump. But close behind him is Marjorie Taylor Greene. Dana Milbank writes:
After eight fellow Republicans thwarted her attempt to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, one of them said Greene lacks “maturity.” Greene responded by telling her 2.8 million followers on X that the man who called her immature was a “p---y” who does not have testicles.
The week began with Greene’s failed attempt on the House floor to impeach Mayorkas. It continued with a failed initial attempt to bring a temporary spending patch to the floor to keep the federal government open for another 60 days. And it ended in a yet another failed vote on the floor, in which 19 Republicans blocked GOP leaders from beginning debate on the annual Commerce, Justice and Science appropriations bill. In the past, it was unheard of for lawmakers to defy their own party leaders on such routine procedural votes. This year, it is commonplace.
A Cabinet-level officer has not been impeached since 1876. House Republicans would very much like to change that, but they don’t yet have the votes. That might be because they haven’t produced evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors by Mayorkas — only evidence that he is implementing President Biden’s policies, which they do not like.
Greene used a “privileged resolution” (a maneuver seldom used in the past but also commonplace in this Congress) to force a snap vote on Monday night on impeaching the secretary without completing an impeachment inquiry. As lawmakers carried on conversations, the House clerk read Greene’s venomous resolution about “willful admittance of … terrorists”; “the invasion of approximately 10,000,000 illegals”; “border crosser[s] who have invaded”; “gotaways”; and even “illegal people.”
One has to ask: What sane person would put these people in office?

Sickos and weirdos abound. (Lil'PP comes to mind, closer to home.)
Yawn.
Alas, future generations (should they be so lucky (or perhaps unlucky) to survive, will be asking the same type of question about all of us and all or our 'leaders' for the past 30 years.
We have a lot to answer for, PoV.
As I sit here in my winter digs in rural Illinois I am often reminded of the divisions here in the good ole US of A. What sane person indeed would vote for these (MTG) people? How can a gangster be running for president and winning in the polls? Senators challenging union reps to a fistfight in Congress? The madness isn't relegated to this country however because the lunacy is wide spread. Biden and Trudeau share in that lunacy with their shared stance on Israel and the failure to even talk about a ceasefire. This is not a sane place but more like the Bizzaro world where up means down and hello means goodbye. The madness is baffling. Who could vote for them indeed? The same sort of person who will vote for Lil PP. The chaos is never ending.
And thus, zoombats, we get the government we deserve.

I don't think so. Various politicos have learned how to game the system. The average voter has very little importance to those who pull the strings.
You make a good point, Toby. But voter apathy allows that to happen. Apathy works for folks like these.
I'm not sure about getting the government we deserve Owen. If I could, I certainly would not vote for MGT or PP, but unfortunately many ill informed people do. More than ever before critical thinking skills are sadly missing from many of our fellow citizens. RG
Let's not forget the gerrymander's role in this madness. MTG, and many other GOP extremists, represent heavily partisan districts, either created that way or gerrymandered. MTG's district, for example, is rated R+23, making it virtually impossible to flip. For reps like her, the biggest threat is being primaried from the right. And so the match to the right continues, with visibility on Fox News being far more important than legislative accomplishments or even bringing home the pork.
Exactly, RG. Ignorance -- wilful ignorance -- has destroyed previous democracies.
An excellent point, Cap. The Republicans know they are a minority. They have, therefore, focused on winning with the votes they have, not the votes they need.
Is Marjorie Taylor Greene the one who said women were weak and the property of their husbands?
If men are sexist, we have a problem. If women are sexist, we have a true catastrophe.
I understand she's divorced from her husband, hels. I assume she no longer thinks of herself as property.
Off-topic late breaking news.
So the 'TWO MICHAELS' were spies after all (just as many of us said at the time).
Yet further exposure of CSIS and its shenanigans and its media enablers. They are all about helping the US-military-industrial-espionage-complex bait/ensnare China into war while they deliver us into the hands of Lil'PP.
Sorry for the interruption .... back to the important discussion of MTG she-said/he-said.
Sanity is in short supply, PoV.
