I Have My Doubts

Max Boot writes that it's time to destroy the Republican Party:

I have watched with incredulity the GOP’s descent into collective madness. Many Republicans I know began by holding their noses and voting for Trump because of judges and taxes and their hatred of Hillary Clinton. Now the whole Republican Party seems to inhabit the Fox News Cinematic Universe, an alternative reality where President Barack Obama spied on Trump and Joe Biden is a socialist who will let “anarchists” and “arsonists” run riot.

The madness knows no bounds:

The party has even become infected by the lunatic QAnon cult, whose followers believe Trump’s opponents are blood-drinking, Satan-worshipping pedophiles. In one recent poll, half of Trump supporters said top Democrats are involved in child sex trafficking. Georgia’s Senate primary offers a disturbing snapshot of the state of the party: Rep. Douglas A. Collins promotes his endorsement from two convicted felons (former Trump advisers Michael Flynn and George Papadopoulos) while Sen. Kelly Loeffler touts her support from Marjorie Taylor Greene, a soon-to-be House member who questioned whether the Pentagon was really attacked on 9/11.

The same trickle-down craziness is evident in Republican mishandling of the coronavirus. Trump has given up trying to control the pandemic, mocks masks and promotes conspiracy theories such as his claim that death counts are inflated because “doctors get more money and hospitals get more money” if they say people died of covid-19. This specious allegation is faithfully echoed by Republicans such as Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa. Red states are paying a devastating price for pandemic denialism: North Dakota has the lowest rate of mask-wearing in the country and the highest covid-19 death rate per capita in the world.

Trump has given permission for Republican bigots to come out into the open — to replace dog whistles with wolf whistles. Sen. David Perdue (R.-Ga.) mocked Sen. Kamala Harris’s Indian first name. Madison Cawthorn, a House nominee in North Carolina, proudly visited Hitler’s lair and created a website attacking a journalist for having worked “for non-white males, like Cory Booker, who aims to ruin white males running for office.” Laura Loomer, a Republican candidate for a House seat from Florida, calls herself “a proud Islamophobe” and cheered the deaths of 2,000 refugees crossing the Mediterranean (“Good. 👏 Here’s to 2,000 more.")

So, this year, Boot is voting for Biden. But he's going even further:

That’s why, even though I’m not a Democrat, I’m voting straight-ticket Democratic on Nov. 3 — and for as long as necessary to make Republicans come to their senses. The GOP needs to be detoxified and de-Trumpified.

He hopes the party can be rebuilt. I have my doubts.

The GOP cannot be rebuilt, it needs to be outlawed, just as the Nazi party was after the war. Its symbols should be banned, like the elephant, Confederate and Gadsden flags, and the QAnon logo. Its stolen judicial seats need to be vacated. Justice Thomas should be impeached for failing to report hundreds of thousands in earnings as required on his annual disclosure forms. The list of government organizations to be purged is huge, and the organizations the party's hacks have destroyed need to be rebuilt. This was the only way to deal with the world's most dangerous organization in the 1940s and it's the only way to deal with the most dangerous organization in human history, as Chomsky rightly calls the GOP.

I agree, Cap. Some organizations are so vile they must be consigned to the dustbin of history.

And SC Justice Sam Alito is openly spouting that they will wait until the elections results before they decide what is "legal" or not and make the appropriate changes in these results to ensure Trump gets four more!

Then there's Amy "Covid" Bryant just chomping at the bit to get all women back into the last Century so she can help all these right wing men put women where they belong. How dare they demand equality! She's supposed to be so brilliant but cannot see that her firm belief in "originalism" would preclude her from obtaining any of the positions she has enjoyed in her working career.

What's that old saying: When they were passing out brains, they thought it was trains and promptly left the station! When you have a 2-party state, the population will always be in an "us and them" situation and working together is an anathema to any working solution.

The Republican Party is not committed to solutions, Lulymay. They are committed to power -- its acquisition and its maintenance. Everything and everyone is expendable in their pursuit of those two objectives.

I wonder if Anita Bryant and Amy are related? They certainly share the same politics and I'm sure membership in the Republican cult. Homophobe Anita got pied in the face and then got down and prayed on a public broadcast while mentioning well "at least it was a fruit pie". There's nothing funny about these fundamental maniacs

The Republicans are now a party of nutbars, zoombats. And, unfortunately, their virus -- like COVID -- is contagious.

A huge problem of our times is that many people are pacified by conspiracy theories.
They sleep at night content that their theories are truth.
Cognition is not their forte.

The modern world is much more complicated than it was last year!
Before the internet year these Q Anon theorists had no way of sending out their polluted message.
D Trump and his followers have started to degrade education and learning(I love the uneducated) and replace it with less rewarding attitudes..
On right wing radio, which I listen to, their are frequent references to the educated being the problem of our times.

A pox on them, keep the borders closed.
