Every Day Is Groundhog Day

Last week, Julie Payette told a science conference in Ottawa, "We are still debating and still questioning whether life was a divine intervention or whether it was coming out of a natural process let alone, my goodness, a random process." Justin Trudeau signalled his support for what the Governor General said.

Andrew Sheer was appalled. "It is extremely disappointing that the prime minister will not support Indigenous peoples, Muslims, Jews, Sikhs, Christians and other faith groups who believe there is truth in their religion."

Sheer has a short memory -- perhaps a willfully short one. Michael Harris writes:

As I recall, it was Scheer’s party that was so “supportive” of Muslims that it wanted to ban the niqab. The Conservatives ended up creating an environment so toxic across the country that Muslim women in religious dress were assaulted in Canadian cities.

Scheer is simply continuing the Harperian war on science:

Scheer’s cynical attack on the prime minister is nothing more than the continuation of the CPC’s war on science — and any other independent source of information that gets in the way of this sad, angry organization driven by ideology straight out of the Republican Tea Party.
It was not by accident that Stephen Harper did away with the national science advisor. Or shuttered the Experimental Lakes area. Or muzzled scientists about their work. There was method to his suppression. Facts have a way of debunking dogma, and neoconservative dogma is what Harper and his government stood for.

The Conservatives have a new leader and a new face. But it's still the Harper Party. And, for them, every day is Ground Hog Day. They haven't learned a thing.

Scheer has taken strong positions against Science and Pot Legalization. Even in the fifties Conservatives were pro science.

As they say, Steve, this is not your father's Conservative Party.

.. the Harris article is a must read.. either before or after the appalling froth from John Ibbotson & the like. And folks miss or forget how Harper replaced the toxic Reform brand with the convenient help of one Peter McKay. Jason Kenney is doing exactly the same now in Alberta. The likes of Andrew Scheer are not 'public servants. & never will be. They are The Contrarian Party, wishing to sip, sup & suck from the foreign owned teats of Big Energy & Big Money. Who's caribbean super-yacht was Rona Ambrose and her rodeo boy cavorting on.. just the zillionaire financier of tar sands & owner of that damned BC tailings pond that collapsed - Imperial Metals, Mount Polley. And once she'd partaken of Stornoway's luxury, she was gone.. pfft ! Already had her next sweet gig lined up.. Washington y'say?

Cultivating the 'base' means keeping up the Conservative 'brand' mythology. And nobody does it better than the faux 'conservatives' and evangelical posers now rebranded as the CPC. All that manipulation, contortion, deflection & deception goes hand in hand with Electoral Vote Suppression & Fraud.. and collusion at the very highest levels of a Government & its dark twin, the parasitic political party itself.

Everything is about the votes.. always about the votes. Behind all the smoke & mirrors of the Michael Sona sacrifice was a blurry black hole. Instead of the search for Pierre Poutine.. what was needed were the names of every person who had any administrative access to the farcically mis-named 'Nation Builder' voter database. I mean everyone! From party members & backroom operators to any IT department techs & datawankers, indy contractors. No fooling around.. The current trial in Ontario that Patrick Brown is feasting on provides an techical example of how that fraud worked.. but in reverse.. deleting. A federal court order could have & should have sequestered an identical digital copy of the CPC database.

To this day we barely know ANY of the names.. relative to who actually was able to manipulate the sign in entries & names of the logs. That's who one of the 'lone rogue operators' is. You know.. able to poison over 240 riding leading up to and during election day. Shameful !! What a mighty swing & a miss by local police, RCMP, CSIS .. etc etc. If we pinned down the 'mechanics' who executed or supported this vast plot to defraud voters, to this day we not be hearing the Conservative Party name in anything but historical terms. They would have been blown out the window.. self defenestration, so to speak. Nobody in this misbegotton political creature seems to know a damn thing when caught red handed but are absolute 'know it alls' the rest of the time.. and always glad to remind us loudly

A superbly insightful comment, salamander.

Scheer is a nasty piece of work. Unfortunately, Trudeau and crew have come up short and some of their support is looking elsewhere to put their votes next time. Sheer is likely to benefit from that. The Libs got in with We're not Harper. Will We're not Sheer work?

Owen Gray said...

Good question, Toby. The revelations coming from the "Paradise Papers" will not help the Libs.

Or maybe what they have learned is due to the first past the post system you can be Attila the Hun and win power every two or three election cycles. With victory you can say it was the people mandate.

Owen Gray said...

Perhaps that's why we still have First Past The Post, Steve. It's the easiest system to manipulate.

We just have to be patient. I'm sure Ken Morgan will do what he can to sort out the 2011 electoral fraud business as soon as he's finished in Kuwait.

Then we'll have to wait quite awhile, John.
