Trump Digs A Deeper Hole

The New York Times reports that, back in June, Donald Trump tried to fire Robert Mueller. Trump has denounced the report as "fake news." Vox reports that Mueller has been aware of this story for a some time.

He wants to talk to Trump and Don McGahn, Trump's White House counsel, who threatened to resign if the order was carried out. Apparently, the threat worked.

The Times has set up a "perjury trap."  The story itself provides yet more evidence for an obstuction of justice case against Trump. But it also pits Trump against McCahn. It's a crime to lie to the FBI -- a fact that former Trump aides George Papadoupolos and Mike Flynn can verify.

If Trump and McGahn's stories don't coincide, either could find themselves in Papodopolous' and Flynn's shoes.

Trump has proven that lying for him is like breathing. Has McGahn succumbed to the same virus?   Keep in mind that several anonymous sources, as well as The Washington Post and CNN have confirmed the Times report.

In Davos, Trump settled this issue definitively, Owen. He declared it 'fake news.' Glad he could set the record straight so succinctly.
