Trump's Townhall

Donald Trump appeared on CNN last night. Frank Bruni writes that, if people are worried about Joe Biden's mental acuity, they should consider Donald Trump's mental health:

Given all the attention to President Biden’s cognitive fitness for a second presidential term, it seems fair, even mandatory, to assess Donald Trump’s performance at a televised town hall in Manchester, N.H., on Wednesday night through the same lens:

How clear was his thinking? How sturdy his tether to reality? How appropriate his demeanor?

On a scale of 1 to Marjorie Taylor Greene, I’d give him an 11.

He was asked to respond to a Manhattan jury’s verdict the previous day that he had sexually abused and defamed the writer E. Jean Carroll.

He said that Carroll once had a cat named Vagina.

He was asked about his failure to deliver on his signature promise to voters in 2016 — that he’d build a wall stretching across the southwestern border of the United States.

“I did finish the wall,” he said, just a few beats before adding that Biden could have easily and quickly completed the stretch that still hasn’t been built if he’d cared to. The statements contradicted each other. They made no sense. They were his entire performance in a nutshell.

He was asked about his role in the Jan. 6 violence and whether he had regrets.

He reminisced mistily about addressing the rally before the riot — “It was the largest crowd I’ve ever spoken to,” he boasted — and about how they were there “with love in their hearts.” The problem, he said, was “Crazy Nancy,” meaning Pelosi, whose fault all of this really was.

It's painfully clear. Trump is certifiable.

I think you are missing the biggest failure of the so called Town Hall meeting which was stacked with Republicans.
That is it was an attempt by CNN by gain viewers and elevate their ability to sell more advertising; it's all about the money $$ little to do with Trump or providing unbiased news.
CNN's business model was never squeaky clean it's always been sensationalised, they just were beaten at their own game by FOX.
It's a shame we have to put up with this whilst well meaning news outlets such as Buzzfeed and others face failure.

They're consciously picking their audience and telling them what they want to hear -- not what they need to hear, TB. So much for journalistic integrity.

Well, his behaviour it the townhall was not particularly different than what we have seen in his last two campaigns. I don't believe he verbally attacked a handicapped member of the audience so it was a good performance all told. I don't think Trump really differentiates between truth and fantasy when he is performing. We just get something like a stream of verbage designed to praise himself and denigrate any and all opponents.

He has been showing signs of mental decline for years, I believe. It is clear from some old video clips that his verbal ability has decline considerably over the last 10+ years. However the weird insults don't seem much worse than what we were hearing before.

At the moment, it looks like the USA will be facing a presidential election with one candidate showing worrying signs of dementia and the other looking like they are showing signs of early dementia and probably narcissism. And both of them just a bit over retirement age.

It should be an interesting campaign. One will have a problem finding the podium and the other will be screaming wild insults and threats an any convenient target. Whom the gods ....

These days anybody with a computer can become a television star, TB. It's paradise for the self-absorbed.

Thanks TB.
Creatively paraphrased from the linked article ....

"Trump, 76, faces up to 20 years in federal prison after he purposely destroyed the wreckage of the American dream according to a statement from the US attorney’s office."
