Donald Trump announced this week that, when he's re-elected, he'll kill Obamacare. He tried that once -- and he almost succeeded. Why is Trump obsessed with Obamacare? Paul Krugman writes:
Much of it, no doubt, reflects the general hostility of the modern Republican Party to any program that helps less fortunate Americans.
But it’s hard to escape the sense that there’s also something personal involved. In his rambling speeches, Trump often seems to believe that Barack Obama is still the president. Regardless of whether Trump is actually confused about this, the Affordable Care Act was Obama’s biggest achievement. And everyone still calls the program Obamacare.
Is Trump vain and petty enough that he would take health care away from millions simply to demolish his predecessor’s legacy? You tell me.
Well, let's be clear: Trump is vain and petty. But there's more to it than that. Not only was Obama a much better president than Trump. He is a much better man. Trump proves that every time he opens his mouth and makes it -- as Richard Nixon used to say -- "perfectly clear."

Looks to me like yet more evidence of cognitive decline. Trump couldn't kill Obamacare when the GOP held a trifecta of power, and most Republicans realize the issue hurt them in 2018. Dems would like nothing better than to run on healthcare and abortion next fall. Sounds like Trump is losing it.

Pretty much sums it up. You could substitute the Republican with Conservative no matter where the country of origin. The "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" is often brought brought forward and one should not forget this gem.

Trump hates anything that was associated with Obama and his success as a president. It is such a pathetic obsession, like all of his are, but also dangerous - he can be talked into doing anything as long as he thinks it is something Obama wouldn't like.
That millions of Americans would actually vote for Trump is appalling.
Australian Universal Health Care is called "Medicare", removing the connection to the leader who happened to be in power back in 1984. Although I liked the Prime Minister Bob Hawke very much, I understand that calling the system Hawkecare might make even normal people shaky, 40+ years later. And Thump could not possibly be considered even vaguely normal.

Like you, hels, we call our medicine Medicare. We remember the prime minister who gave it to us -- Lester Pearson. Trump's memory isn't very good. But the name Obama is firmly planted in his brain.
Pearson was a giant.
On the other hand, you might get a fight from some quarters who'd prefer Douglas-care vs Pearson-care as an origin story.

As too why Trump is so fixated on Obama, its real easy. Obama is not white and he is very smart. That just doesn't work for Trump and his gang. There are some things white people just can't abide and an African American President is something Trump could not abide. We ought not to forget the reaction of Trump towards the young black men who were arrested for rape in NYC. Turns out they had nothing to do with it. It clearly demonstrated Trump's attitude. Trump's paternal grandfather was a piece of work. Some times these traits move with the generations.
