A Nasty Fight

We're headed for a nasty fight in Ontario. Global News reports that:

Mass protests and widespread disruption — that’s what Ontario’s labour movement is promising, as multiple Canadian unions plan to take part in sympathetic strikes to protest Premier Doug Ford’s Bill 28.

Multiple sources told Global News a coalition of unions is planning a mass demonstration at Queen’s Park on Saturday, Nov. 12 and a massive multi-sector strike on Monday, Nov. 14.

The aim, sources said, was to bring the province to a standstill and apply maximum pressure on the Progressive Conservative government to repeal Bill 28, which invoked the notwithstanding clause to impose a contract on CUPE’s 55,000 education-support workers.

Today, the drivers who operate the GO Bus Service went on strike.

Doug Ford's education is very limited and his experience is very thin. He inherited his father's company. It was a family business and it did not have to negotiate with a union.

Perhaps it was inevitable that things should come to this.

“As a gesture of good faith our government is willing to rescind the legislation, are willing to rescind section 33, but only if CUPE agrees to show a similar gesture of good faith by stopping their strike, and letting our kids back into their classrooms," Ford said at a news conference on Monday morning.
Ford fumbled, but it will be a great bargaining chip if it makes CUPE blink too. "I'll fix my mistake if you make yours" Make it just a strike Dougy with the strike in place start talking. No bail out for Bozo.

I just watched Dougie's news conference, Owen, filled with lies and inaccuracies. To hear him tell it, CUPE demands would bankrupt the province, this from the guy that surrendered over $1 billion in revenue in license and toll fees.

He was less than convincing, in my view.

This is one of those times when all labour unions need to stand together. Ford cannot be allowed to get away with his anti-union bullying.

There are posts on various Media re Doug Ford currently
it ain’t pretty.. he’s a tool of Developers ..
the money involved is far beyond astonishing

I don’t use the term Social Parasitism lightly
to see it flaunted in plain sight by Political Parties
really hurts .. Doug Ford, Pierre Poilievre
Candice Bergen, Danielle Smith, Jason Kenney

If I wanted to name a new Mood Disorder
it might be Political Sociopathy
‘they just don’t care’ - ‘have no limits’

‘It’s their nature’ - The Scorpion & The Frog

Ford knows nothing about labour negotiations, lungta.

Doug is an old-fashioned capitalist, Lorme. He'll give money away but he won't pay his bills.

Owen Gray said...

That appears to be exactly what labour is doing, Toby.

And, unfortunately, sal, sociopathy can't be cured by logic.

ford blinked. it may have been the thought of having a full blown provincial strike with Unions in other sectors financing it. If you go after CUPE in Ontario, you may have to deal with CUPE across Canada. Of course some one could have had a frank and open discussion with him regarding how much a law suite brought by the unions would cost, how long it would take, and then to loose.

His allegations of it would cost too much, what a bunch of B.S. B.C. just raised the salaries of educators, and we're not going to go bankrupt because of it. the provincial government in B.C. also gave doctors a $135K a year raise. If you want people to work, you need to pay them. Paying people $39K a year is disgusting given the cost of living.

Education for children is way more important than making developers happy or providing tax cuts for those who don't need them. O.K. dougie, welcome to the real world

Doug is being forced to reorganize his priorities, e.a.f.
