From Within

The CBC is reporting that both Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott are considering joining The Green Party:

Green Party Leader Elizabeth May said today she expects two former Liberal MPs who quit Justin Trudeau's cabinet over the SNC-Lavalin matter will decide whether to join her party by early June.
Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott resigned and were subsequently kicked out of the Liberal caucus in the fallout of the SNC-Lavalin affair, which saw top government officials accused by Wilson-Raybould of pressuring her to interfere in legal proceedings against the Quebec construction company.
Wilson-Raybould attended May's wedding in Victoria last month; at the time, according to a Global News report, she said she'd had "several conversations with Elizabeth, no decision has been made yet."
May said she's talked to both women but she's still unsure of her chances of securing them as candidates.

Liberal MP Andrew Leslie has announced that he will not run in the next election. If the case against Vice Admiral Mark Norman had gone to trial, he would have testified in Norman's defence.

Team Trudeau is falling apart. And it's repeating a well established pattern: From Trudeau and Turner, to Turner and Chretien, to Chretien and Martin, the Liberals always destroy themselves from within.

I'm struggling to imagine how Justin can reverse his fortunes between now and October. Summer was often an ally of Harper who watched as his scandals evaporated in time for the fall session but I'm not sure the voters are ready to restore their faith in Trudeau.

This is great news, Owen. I hope it pans out.

A lot can happen in the next six months, Lorne. But something is afoot.

I agree, Mound. In the last six months, Trudeau has had -- or produced -- wave after wave of damaging news.

.. a timely post, thanks .. !

My thoughts and prayers ...
to the disintegrating hoary old white snot old stock political parties.. Presumably there's a secret handshake or a wink wink nod nod.. and pump some dollars in when you join.. or were annointed. I really 'don't see the need' for them. Are political parties akin to the real estate 'staging' experts ?? In other words.. to a great extent they emplace a vaguely related political crony.. a live body, not too unpresentable.. or scary.. ideological furniture .. shrubbery.. a 'front' .. even a stooge

That gets us to the next era.. after a 'sleepy' Rob Anders style era.. thus we see the Harper rump party era 'evolves' (morphs??) now into a larger evangelical dull wart module.. 'lead' by Andrew Scheer.. That's our Plan B ?? Our 'go to' guy, next election.. A Canadian For All Seasons ?? Or a piece of dull talk talk work, & a blend of glue, mud and papier mache ??? Mebbe not even that.. (all this as Trudeau implodes... & whither Mr Butts ???)

Taken altogether, sal, it's not an inspiring picture.

I don't know why exactly but I don'tI welcome the news of J.W.R. and J.P. resurfacing as Greens. I have never felt comfortable with floor crossers and party changers. I don't believe that you can change your political stripes just like that and the idea has always struck me as opportunism. After feeling really comfortable with my new found Green position I find myself now living with some doubt again. Who thinks for a second that there will be anymore loyalty in their new suit of clothes. One thing for sure will be the Cons changing their tune when they stop the chatter about strong truthful women being thrown under the bus by the liberals and now referring to the more traitorous leanings of the pair.

It doesn't appear that their shift to green suits is a done deal, zoombats. And it's worth keeping in mind that a lot can happen in six months.

I don’t foresee a Harper-style evaporation of hardships over the summer because the press isn’t going to let up on Justin. They’re compensating for the easy ride that they now feel they gave him during the first years of his leadership with a “shallowness” theme that’s buried in every discussion and opinion piece. It dovetails nicely with the costumes and the party’s excessive exploitation of his affability and photogenicity. Add to that the thumping that he’ll continue to suffer at the hands of the Internet’s favourite fake journalists and the stale old libertarian op-ed guys that are now crawling out from under their various rocks to take up their positions. They’re blaming him for stuff that his predecessors did. And there’s something else that I don’t quite get: a lot of people for whatever their reasons really, really hate this guy.

I don’t see a comfortable home for the two ladies in any of the other parties. But of course, that doesn’t mean they’re not electable.

I suspect that other parties will have questions about JWR's and Philpott's loyalties, John. It will be interesting to see if they will be able to overcome their misgivings.

So we are supposed to feel good because two opportunistic people want to join another party because they left before they got tossed from another party?

Do we really want career pols switching to find soft seats and then claim they are doing good because you don't like where they came from?

Changing parties on policy I can understand changing parties just to put the boots to the old boss is so petty!

.. I aint buying the whining about Ms Philpott or Ms Wilson-Raybould.. In our view (salamander country) those two, aside from Nathanial Erskine-Smith may be the most principled of all the fading & jaded Trudeau cabal.. sad to say.. In the same sentence will say, Michael Chong may be the only principled MP among the CPC..

Our point today.. and every day is... Did you represent your riding effectively - honourably .. If not.. please resign, you are useless.. baggage

If one's 'party' demands some sort of altered ego 'loyalty'.. a 'whipped' sellout 'greater cause' subservience.. you are bullshit - indeed a failure.. to roll over for that.. Thus those two women may be great MP's.. just doing the job & taking the heat.. representing their riding

Owen Gray said...

They may, indeed, be such sal. But political parties are tribes. And tribes are suspicious of outsiders.

Owen Gray said...

Floor crossing is nothing new, Ben. What matters is the reason for the switch. And, if we are to believe the two ladies, their reason was a complete lack of confidence in Mr. Trudeau's leadership. One should ask, Whose leadership do you support?

.. we're a little short on generosity or flucks to give.. This is the era where a Rob Anders can be elected again and again because... well uh..

This is the era where a Sam Oosterhoff can be inflicted - elected / upon Ontario.. or a Doug Ford

Thus, when political or party 'discord' swims into view like an approaching lamprey eel.. its best to vamoose lickedy split.. get some distance.. and consider the terrain.. or habitat.. and is it 'habitable' ?? 'Defendable' ?? Lost cause ?

All of Canada watched or didn't watch.. as the east coast fisheries.. (yes, the plural.. it was a collapse) for a variety of reasons.. Now Canada watches or does not watch as we prepare to repeat the failure on OUR west coast !! Or the boreal regions. Somewhere in the political noise I hear Andrew Scheer spouting about moving OUR Canadian embassy to Jerusalem or Norfolk Virginia.. and de-politicizing military procurement.. and saving our heathen souls.. at which point he might decide fracking OUR National Parks is a great idea

Trudeau has even grander plans.. but 'pig in a poke' is the political styling of the day.. Elect Me.. and I will save your asses.. from beelzebub.. or climate change.. or both..I, myself.. refuse (on principle) to consume or serve 'horseshit salad' - My name is not Joe.. Je me Souviens - don't piss on my leg and tell me its raining.. or that dumping toxins upon the lands or waters is A-OK & you'll clean it up later.. on our dime.. That aint 'public service' .. that's wordage overheard in a house of ill repute.. 2 ayem.. amen

thought you had written about the JWR and JP situation. This morning I was reading an American blog I follow, Legal Schnauzer, by Roger Schuler. a few years ago it was rated as one of the top 10 legal blogs in the U.S.A. He was incarcerated for 5 months a couple of years ago, for blogging, yes he wrote things Alabama politicians didn't like.

This morning his topic was about the nuclear reactors which remain unfinished and moth balled for the past 30 years. following Trump's election, Schuler wrote an article regarding some foreign interest who wanted to finish and start them up. this morning his blog advised:

Haney has reached an agreement with SNL Lavalin, a Canadian engineering firm, to finish at least one of two reactors at Bellefonte with the assistance of federal loan guarantees.

SNC-Lavalin has a history of working on various projects with Russian interests, via the VEB Bank, which has close ties to Vladimir Putin, reputed mobster Oleg Deripaska, and former Trump campaign chair Paul Manafort, who was found guilty of financial crimes.

See what we mean by the "Russification of Alabama"?

28 May 2019 U.S. PROBE OF TN DEVELOPER FRANKLIN HANEY AND HIS NUCLEAR MONEY PIT OCULD UNMASK TRUMP SWINDLER AND THE ALABAMA SWAMP CREATURES WHO HELP THEM FLORISH.
----------------
this may be of interest to Canadians. We recall JWR wasn't willing to give SNC Lavalin a pass or DAP. She stuck to her guns. What I'd like to know is if she knew about the Alabama "thing". If she did, no wonder she refused to change her position,

People have suggested SNC Lavalin's wrong doings were all in the past, they've cleaned up their act, etc. My readings of Legal Schnauzer lead me to conclude they haven't. No one knows for sure why Ms. Wilson-Rayboult refused to "cave". It is doubtful she will ever say. Perhaps this is the reason.

what I find very interesting is some of the vilification of JWR on another blog, Montreal Simon. My take on it was perhaps these were foreign trolls sowing dissent amongst progressives. My opinion was not appreciated, but it was published. Following JWR's interview with an eastern paper, Montreal Simon once again vilified, JWR and JP. Two of the commenters were particularly vile, one suggesting JWR be "burned" and one using a derogatory term. my response was to call it for what I saw it, racism. I was advised, given I was an Indigenous male I was not doing my "people" any favours by taking this position and neither was JWR. That this would all cause Scheer to win and Trudeau to loose. My objections were met with being banned for life from the blog.

In my opinion there is a lot at play in all of this, especially given I'm a white female, born in Europe who simply advocated this was a democracy and JWR and JP had the right to their opinions.
