The bug found its way into our house. My wife and I have been down with something. The doctor says that tests aren't available and we should assume that we've contracted OMICRON. It has not been pleasant. But we're thrice vaccinated and also vaccinated for the flu. If you haven't been vaccinated yet, you should assume that it's coming for you.
I awoke this morning to the news that Kevin McCarthy, like his colleague Jim Jordan, will not co-operate with the committee looking into the events of a year ago. No surprise there. In the words of Mark Antony, "He is an honourable man. So are they all -- honourable men."

Sorry to hear of your and your wife's illness, Owen. We were wondering about your absence. Get well soon!
Sounds like a conundrum…..oh no! Take good care. Cheers! Anyong
A rare breed in politics, an honourable man. Hope that all is on the mend in the OG household...I was getting worried.
Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery Owen, Looking forward to your posts. BC Waterboy
A speedy recovery to you and yours, Owen. Do file posts telling us how this progresses. Most of us expect to wind up in your boots.
Take care.
Thanks for the good wishes, everyone. For us, there has been a lot of heavy coughing and sinus problems. The result has been a lot of lost sleep. Sometimes the coughing makes it hard to breathe. My wife has an oximeter and our oxygen levels are still high.
This experience has reminded us of how complex and difficult the problems we face are. And -- one way or other -- we're going to have to deal with them.
Looks like Santa left you a nasty surprise. I remember when a lump of coal was as bad as it got. Anyway, experts are saying that we're all going to get omicron eventually, so maybe there's some consolation in getting it out of the way early. Get well soon!
Cap
Here is hoping you both are feeling better this morning. Anyong
Thanks, Cap. We're working on it.
Still a bit under the weather, Anyong. But things are improving.
sorry you may have contacted the dreaded O. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Take care.
Having had all three shots and the flu shot, am hoping not to contact any form of covid. Only go out once every 3 or 4 weeks to purchase groceries and then home again, avoiding everyone. Living on your own makes it easier to avoid the germs.
I guess I'm lucky right now, Owen. The other half was a heavy smoker when we married and there was no, I mean NO, discussion involving allowed re the notion of cutting back. His mother smoked while she carried him {I have no idea if that was an influence). Both of our kids were born and raised in a smoke-filled house and had allergies (but not the same). He did quit and absolutely regrets that he smoked as long as he did because he has not only had pneumonia several times but also now has COPD.
With this in mind, when we came home after some time in the sun, our wonderful Dr just said "stay home and get your son to do your shopping". We took him seriously as he's not a wild-eyed person. So, I have, for 25 years been operating a 30 day (meal each night system. This has served us well because I only venture out every other Thursday, with grocery list in hand, and we have survived very well with minimum contact with the outside world.
We keep in touch by phone with those who are top of the "chatter chain" and use the internet for e-mailing most others. This has worked out well and so far, so good, as they say. As you will have guessed, we are both retired so we don't have to face the obstacles those who must go out every day in order to earn a living for their family. We need to find a way to support them. Suggestions, anyone?
That was our plan, too, e.a.f. Unfortunately, the bug is everywhere. I hope you manage to avoid it.
Like you, Lois, my wife and I are retired. We're simply grateful that we don't have to go out and earn a living in the midst of all this.
