Big And Dumb

Doug Ford visited Washington this week. He was there to talk trade. But he also waded into U.S. politics and the upcoming election. The Canadian Press reports:

Ontario Premier Doug Ford waded into U.S. politics during a visit to the country's capital on Friday, criticizing high-profile Democratic politicians and appearing to endorse President Donald Trump's bid for re-election.
Ford took shots at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Bernie Sanders during an event organized by the Canadian American Business Council. The Premier was in Washington D.C. along with a group of other provincial leaders to attend the winter meeting of the National Governor's Association.
Ford said he enjoyed Trump's State of the Union address this week and slammed Pelosi for ripping up a copy of the remarks on television.
"I was disappointed when I saw Nancy Pelosi get up there and start tearing the speech up," he said during the event with the Canadian American Business Council. "It's uncalled for. I think it's a shame."
Ford also took aim at Sanders, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, describing his political leanings as "actually scary."
"I always say socialism doesn't work," Ford said. "Raising taxes does not work. Show me anywhere in the world that it works, it doesn't."

Ford has previously voiced admiration for Trump -- in Ontario. Those of us who know the man are not surprised. But to voice his views in the United States -- particularly after Trump's sham trial in the Senate simply underscores the fact the Ford is remarkably obtuse.

Remember the line from Bad, Bad Leroy Brown? "He's big and dumb as a man can come." That's our Dougie.

Precisely what happens when you have a clown masquerading as a statesman, Owen.

That word describes exactly what Ford is, Lorne. He embarrasses us all.

What a damned imbecile. Why is it that these Tuffy McNutt right-wingers can't resist a circle jerk? Maybe the simple gratification of the act will suffice for now for Doug; but once you draw his attention by sucking up to Trump, you've put yourself on notice that you've got to keep it up.

I wonder if he realizes that he just let us know with no uncertainty what he actually thinks of government involvement in health care delivery. Where's our useless loyal opposition going to be on this one? Has there been another news blackout in Hamilton Centre?

I take some comfort in the fact that the Liberals -- who lack official party status -- are leading in the polls, John. It takes a special kind of imbecility for a government to accomplish that.

How about right here in Canada, Doug. The highest rates of economic growth and general prosperity were achieved when the highest marginal tax rates were over 90 percent!

That's history, Cap. If there's one thing Doug knows nothing about, it's history -- even recent history.

I guess the Border Patrol didn't think to ask him if he had ever smoked Weed or sold hashish. To bad because lying to a border person is a very serious offence. Unless he didn't inhale

Seeing as dougie believes socialism doesn't work perhaps he'd like to give up his health care. If dougie believes raising taxes doesn't work I guess we can expect him to give up his salary and perks because people have to pay taxes for him to enjoy them.

dougie just wants to run with the big dogs o,k. the big jerks, but he isn't going to make the cut, no matter how much he strokes trump's ego

The people of Ontario might want to re consider dougie as premier. given he is of the opinion socialism doesn't work, they could expect education to become something people pay for. A nice two tiered system. The public one, under funded, 20 yr old school books, un heated classrooms, etc. and another one for the well to do. For those with parents in publicly funded care hones, you might want to consider moving them home. with dougie's attitude you can look forward to neglect, lack of meals, etc.

Socialism is only good when it provides benefits for corporations and the billionaire class.

people voted for dougie. now they can live with it or die because of it. good luck Ontario

I can't help but think that Ford's repeated bad judgement will catch up with him, zoombats.

All signs point to the fact that Ontarians are seriously re-evaluating their choice, e.a.f.

It will be interesting to see if Ford's own party turns on him prior to the next election. Not knowing what their policy is regarding "leadership review" I'll just watch the news.

It should be clear by now, e.a.f, that the leader of Ontario's Progressive Conservatives is a dud.
